Kin Recruitment Policy

Silmaril does not broadcast in any channels that we are 'hiring', 'searching', 'seeking', 'recruiting', or any similar verbiage. Recruitment into Silmaril is by invite only from our members or by word of mouth.

People are brought into the kin as recruits and will stay recruits until they are nominated for membership. Nominations must come from another member of Silmaril and cannot be the member that invited them into the kin. Membership is granted at kin meetings, not the day of the nomination.

How do you get nominated?
Whenever you are seen doing something nice for another kin member,
Whenever you are seen helping someone with a quest or craft
Whenever you help by them for anything
Whenever anyone things 'Gee whiz, that person really seems cool, I hope they stay with Silmaril, I KNOW! I'll nominate them for membership!'

What's the big deal about obtaining membership?

Only members can join Kin organized raids, period. Recruits can help with raids only if an Officer invites them (and if there's no member who wants the spot).
Only members have access to the kin vault. We didn't spend time running CD to give those items to people we don't think will stick around.

Our expectation is that recruits will be spending their time trying to earn a nomination (if they have any interest in end-game raiding) and becoming part of the Silmaril family.

Raid Rules (As of 6/02/09)

Is there anything I should know before I start signing up for the Raids?

There are a few things we want everyone to know before they start raiding with us, following these tips can get the raid moving faster and increase our success:

1. The Raid leader is the first and last authority on everything during a raid. it's tough enough to do a good job as your class, it's much more difficult to organize and lead 12-24 people of different classes through a raid. Challenging a raid leader openly during a raid is a very good way of getting kicked regardless of whether you're right or wrong. If you don't like the way they lead, you can /tell them after the raid or make friendly suggestions to them in /tells.

2. Sign up / Show up. If you cant make it try and get online long enough to cancel your signup or let a raid leader know you will not be attending.

3. Be ready to join the raid with all required pots and equipment and be ready to be ported to the raid zone at the posted time. If you have any questions about what kind of equipment is needed for a raid, by all means ask before we begin smile

4. Noone should chastise another player or make rude remarks about something they did or did not do. If you want to give someone "a polite suggestion" do so in a /tell. If you have something critical to say about another player, then let the raid leader know in a tell. DO NOT send a tell to the player in question or try to make an argument about things. Remember that the strength of any raid group is cooperation and teamwork.

5. The only thing that can defeat a raid wipe is a sense of humor, make sure it's in surplus and you have it close by.

6. Speaking on the raid channel during a fight should be on an as needed basis. It is going to be required at times for certain people to communicate as events unfold. We have a vent server with different channels so we can carry on any number of different conversations during a raid and free up the raid channel, please use them.

7. If voice is not available to you because you don't have a microphone, please at least turn on your voice chat option so you can hear the rest of us. Please also use the /raid chat channel to communicate if you're typing and not the /fellowship channel. If you have any questions about how to do this, please ask anyone smile

Why are we doing this?

Silmaril raids because we enjoy the end game content of LOTRO. We also raid because we're close friends and enjoy laughing at each others' expense. We do not raid because of the drops.

What if I just want the items from the raid?

Sometimes we perform raids with the single purpose of getting drops for people, these events are rare and organized by Phaedrus. Start baking him a cake now to get on his good side. If a raid is posted on this sight then it is not for that purpose.

Do we get any drops at all?

Absolutely, everyone who participates in our raids has the opportunity to get one item per week for their toons. Your chances at the item are increased by your karma.

Karma who? What's Karma ?

Karma is the point system Silmaril uses in order to reward our members for joining our raids. There are 2 ways of getting karma:

1) Participate in a raid event. You will receive a karma boost equal to the value of the event.
2) Sign up for a raid, show up on time, and sit out because it's full. You will receive a karma boost equal to the total events the raid party achieved during the raid.

What do I do with Karma ?

You may choose to add your karma to your /roll when the party is giving out loot after a boss battle (add it to 100; ie: if you karma is 15, then you /roll 115) Karma is reset whenever you win an armor piece from a raid.

Is the Karma system fair?

We've done quite a bit of arguing to make it to the system we're currently using. If you don't think it's fair then please speak up and be heard during one of our KIN MEETINGS. We're not going to discuss this while we're rolling on items or any other time.

Can I roll for my alt?

Hot topic, there are 2 rules here that need to be clear:

1) You cannot sign up for a raid if with a toon that is not eligible. If your toon is unqualified (radiance or virtue for example) don't sign up. The toon you sign up with is the toon you're going to roll on except when,

2) We need one of your alts so the raid leader asks you to switch over. Read the following carefully: I sign up with a LM (Kalborn) but the raid needs another hunter (Kal's alt Brandhere) so I switch over. If I want to roll on an armor piece with Kal, I'm responsible for getting Kal to the entrance of the raid even though I'm bringing Brandhere. During the course of the raid, I'm eligible to roll on Hunter item (not LM items). When we get to the chest, the raid leader will ask me to switch back to the toon I signed up with so I can roll as an LM on the chest items.
